Janet Friedlander, Oberlin student 1973-75 (deceased), played bassoon on Paul S. Reed’s senior recital on the Divertimento No. 3 in B flat K 439 by Mozart.   Janet left Oberlin to become a bassoon player with the Dallas Symphony Orchestra in 1975 when she was 19.

Janet passed away in 1989.   The Dallas Symphony Orchestra League sponsors the “Friedlander Competition” each year in Janet’s memory.  The competition provides an opportunity for students to compete for scholarships to assist them with college tuition, new instrument purchases and/or summer study programs.

Janet was a contributing performer on Sounds of Serenity and Sounds of Solace.
